Workers' Comp in Sarasota, Florida

Sarasota / Manatee / Charlotte Counties — 2026 FL rates • Pay-as-you-go • High-mod welcome

We're in Palmetto. Our office is 15 minutes from downtown Bradenton, 30 from Sarasota. This is our home market. We work with Lakewood Ranch framers, Longboat Key renovation contractors, and Gulf Coast roofers who got hit hard by recent storms and are now dealing with mod increases they didn't see coming.

Three Different Markets in One Metro

Lakewood Ranch has been one of the top-selling master-planned communities in the US for years. The development footprint now spans eastern Manatee and Sarasota counties - Waterside Place, the Villages of Lakewood Ranch, and the newer pods still coming out of the ground. Wellen Park in North Port picks up where Lakewood Ranch leaves off heading south into Charlotte County. Framing, roofing, HVAC, and plumbing contractors in this corridor have had a steady floor of work that doesn't depend on the broader economy.

The barrier islands are a completely different business. A Longboat Key renovation can be $800k to well over a million in construction across multiple trades. Small crews, high-value work, demanding clients and GCs. Anna Maria Island, Siesta Key, Casey Key - same story. The risk profile is different from tract home construction, and so is the relationship with your insurer.

Then there's the storm recovery market. Ian in 2022. Helene and Milton in 2024. Fort Myers Beach took the worst of Ian, but the broader Southwest Gulf Coast - Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee counties - has had years of rebuild and restoration work layered on top of the existing new-construction pipeline. That's a lot of volume, and for some local contractors it came with claims that are now showing up on experience mods.

Mod Increases After the Storm Seasons

Storm seasons create a specific workers' comp problem. Local contractors take on more work than they normally run, hire fast to keep up, and end up with higher claim frequency than their base rate reflects. A contractor who had a clean mod of 0.90 before Ian can find themselves at 1.35 or higher a few renewal cycles later. Standard carriers notice.

We've seen non-renewals come out of the Sarasota-Manatee market at a rate that wasn't happening before 2022. Roofers especially, but also HVAC and general contractors who were doing significant storm work. PEO programs pool your claims with a larger group - which doesn't eliminate your claim history but substantially softens how hard it hits your cost. If your renewal came in at a number you can't absorb, call us at 1-877-315-COMP (2667) and let's see what the math looks like on the PEO side.

Questions from Sarasota Contractors

This is the conversation we're having most often right now out of the Gulf Coast market. Mods that went from 0.95 to 1.40 or more in a single cycle - that happened to a lot of Sarasota and Manatee county roofers after back-to-back storm seasons. Standard carriers either priced the renewal out of reach or sent a non-renewal notice. PEO is usually the realistic path forward. Your claims history still exists, but it's buffered by a larger group's experience. Call us with your loss runs and current mod and we'll run the numbers honestly.

One policy covers all of Florida. Lakewood Ranch (Manatee County), North Port (Sarasota County), a job in Charlotte County - all under the same coverage. County lines don't matter for Florida workers' comp. You're not buying coverage by geography.

No meaningful minimum on established PEO programs. Your premium is based on your actual payroll - two carpenters doing high-end millwork on a Longboat Key renovation pay based on those two people's wages, not on the contract value of the project. The $900k renovation budget doesn't affect your workers' comp cost. Your code and payroll do.

Yes. Charlotte County is part of our market. Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood - all of it. The post-Ian rebuild activity in Charlotte and Lee counties is still running years later. If you're a Sarasota-area contractor who picked up storm work in Charlotte County and now has coverage questions, or if your mod moved after that work, call us.
